Couldn’t ask questions. He couldn’t allow her to stop to think about what was going to happen next. He couldn’t allow either one of them to have their minds stray from the goal that he had set for the both of them. Lukas pulled even closer to her body as she started to move again and Ashton lifted both of her bags off of her shoulders yet again and loaded one across his body and the other on one shoulder and he stepped behind her to let her lead. Not because he didn’t know where they were going but because it was a better vantage point. He could see all of the way around them then, wand held carefully in his hand. Luckily it didn’t look like Lukas was too worse for the wear, hopefully the tired state that he was in would keep him distracted enough to think that this was just some strange dream that they were going through. Coming to the end of the building Ashton moved back to the front of the, secure in the knowledge that there was no longer anybody on the roof...was pretty certain this was the direction that body had fallen though...something to avoid as they were to keep moving for sure. The back of Ashton’s hand lifted to wipe at his nose before judging the coast clear enough for Kaydence to close that gap into the woods while he stood sentry. He would follow in a moment, after he was sure that they were across the treeline he followed at a slower pace. This was exactly the thing that Mikkhal hadn’t been counting on. This was exactly what he should have learned from underestimating his enemies. Ashton was more than known to be an arrogant asshole but he wasn’t stupid enough to think that he was immortal. He didn’t think he was better than anybody else, except Stavros, and he normally just was cocksure. The rest was all just fallout. Mikkhal had allowed his ego to go to his head, somehow thinking himself not only on their level but above it as well. It was absolutely insane. Which, was why he was now dead.
Ashton should have been more concerned with checking on their wellbeing whenever they came into the thicket but he simply wasn’t. He was too busy checking the magical borders for the exact place that he would be able to apparate them from. He didn’t want to stay here any longer than he needed to, just in case. Feeling that invisible barrier until he could get his boots on the other side of it he marked a small X into the dirt under his body and waited as Kaydence adjusted the way she was holding Lukas. This whole thing was only just starting and already it was a mess. “Darling, are you alright?” Obident little thing he was. Shannon would have already been asking a milion questions that his little tongue tied mouth couldn’t actually form. Pestering him about the grass and that it felt strange under his shoes. That he wanted to wear Ashton’s boots so that he didn’t have to feel it anymore while Mika would have been pouting, loudly, that she wanted to be back in her bed. That she didn’t feel like she should have been subjected to this in the first place and that if twigs got into her hair she would make everybody pay. While she could hardly form all of those words, the little stomp of her spoiled little foot would have made her opinions on the subject clear. Lukas was quieter, perhaps that’s what happened to kids when they were raised in a stable environment. Ashton wouldn’t know anything about that whatsoever. He would have liked to think that he did, or that he was capable of providing such a thing...but as of yet that just hadn’t been his luck.
”Yeah. What happened to you Mr. Wentworth? Did you fall?” Ashton’s tongue probed the split part of his lip and he chuckled, it really wasn’t much. He could hardly feel it at all. “This?” Ashton was tempted to say something about how this didn’t even hurt him but he didn’t want to send the wrong message. Somehow, he didn’t think Kaydence would have been training her child to fight in the way that he had been teaching his. “I think he was just trying really hard to beat you Lukas.” Ashton nodded, easily taking that way out. “Yeah, you know how you’re supposed to hold the railing on the stairs? Well.” Ashton gestured to his face “this is why,” He would have made another joke but they needed to move. Instead he gestured out with his hand for the two of them to step into his hold so that he could pull them where they needed to go. It sat in his chest all kinds of wrong whenever they complied and he wrapped his arms around the both of them at the same time. It almost choked him up. He couldn’t look at either one of them. Closing his eyes, he focused, and apparated them right out of there.
