Character Personality
Marlon is highly intelligent and excels in the majority of his classes. This does not make him into a pure intellectual, however. He is very careful to keep himself in proper shape, often working out, as well as keeping his duelling skills well honed. He inulges in muggle teaching classes at the Austrian learning annex to keep himself well rounded. He is proficient in fencing as well as hand to hand combat. But he is not a violent person. He had just been given a lot of opportunities in his life to learn and would feel it a waste to not take them. Most of these traits have a lot to do with his sister - seeing as he is was the sole provider for both of them for a very long time.
Marlon is generally very silent, preferring to let looks speak for him. When he does open his mouth, however, it is usually to say something well-thought out and worth paying attention to. His figure is imposing - even people meeting him for the first time are immediately infused with a healthy amount of respect. This is something he also demands if it is not given. People in general are careful not to get on his bad side, as it is a very unpleasant side to be on. If there is one thing he is not, it is afraid to get into a fight. This is a remnant from having to stand up to his father to protect his sister all the way to kidnapping her (determination is something he does not lack). That doesn't mean that he is a man to resort to violence if he can help it. He will often give a person a chance to explain their situation and will listen to all sides of any story before exacting his opinion in whatever method that he needs to.
Marlon is, however, also well-liked among his peers. He is not as antisocial as some of his traits may make him seem, quite the opposite, he enjoys the company of friends and people in general. Despite his many responsibilities, he is not afraid to get into trouble occasionally, knowing that his good marks are likely to make up for most of his rule-breaking.Character Traits: strong, silent, imposing, confident, determined, intelligent, guarded, kind, gentle
Character History
Marlon Jayme Wagner was born into an Irish pure-blood wizarding family (Bantry, Ireland, to be exact). His mother was Irish, his father, Daniel, English; growing up he learned both English and Gaelic as his first languages. Two years after his birth, his mother died giving birth to his younger sister, Cammie. This led his father to move back to England with his two young children in tow. Early on, Marlon was sent to schools that provided the best education money could buy - it was during these years he picked up on Italian, Spanish, French, Latin, German, and even Chinese as well as gaining a proficiency in many other non-magical subjects. He was always very skilled at mathematics for example. His sister, however, was not so lucky. Their father Daniel stuck to the belief that women belonged at home, and that is where he kept Cammie, doing the cooking, cleaning, and other housework. He was also of the notion that women should be seen and not heard. His father took this very seriously, and even more to an extreme in his sisters case due to the fact that he blamed for her for their mothers death. He was ashamed of her and forbid Marlon from even telling people that he had a sister, he was to explain that he was an only child. While at school Marlon was an upstanding young man, he frequently overcompensated for the fact that his home life was so detrimental. In the house, he wasn't allowed to look at or speak to his sister outside of giving her commands. Something that Marlon would never do. he was forced to watch as She was beaten for both her mistakes as well as Marlon's, something for which he feels guilty even now. Growing up in such an environment, Marlon grew very protective of his younger sister, however, the times he attempted to stand up for her, they were both beaten.
He was ecstatic about his acceptance letter from Hogwarts, however, his joy was overshadowed by the fact that Cammie would be left home alone with their father. Still, he accepted his place, receiving good grades, making good friends, and was even counted among the more 'popular' students. He never told anyone about his past and home situation, however.
This was growing worse and worse. Cammie wrote him as often as she could sneak letters past their father, who had started drinking in Marlon's absence. This only made him more irritable and harder to please, and Marlon would find Cammie covered in bruises when he returned home for the summer. For two years, this went on. Then Cammie received her Hogwarts letter, however, Daniel prohibited her from attending. 13-year old Marlon finally took action - when buying his own school supplies, he also bought those for his sister. Having become the alcoholic he was, their father had ceased bringing Marlon to the train station after his first year. Thus, Marlon left before light, taking Cammie with him secretly and bringing her into the school against their father's wishes. For the consecutive years, Daniel was unable to take Cammie out of school and keep her from going without arousing suspicion, so she kept attending Hogwarts together with Marlon.
The summer after Marlon's fifth year (Cammie's 2nd), Daniel's temper finally snapped upon their return. He began beating her, telling her she was too dumb for an education, that she was turning into a little whore who thought she was too good for her home just because someone was telling her how to wave a wand instead of sticking her in the kitchen where she belonged. Marlon snapped over the years he had grown to a very healthy size, jumping on his father who simply threw him aside, letting out his anger for both of them on Cammie. It was then he broke four of her bones - her collarbone, as well as all the bones in her right arm. Marlon managed to get her into a hospital for proper care, again, against his father's wishes, with the story that she had fallen from a tree. During her absence, he took action, swearing such an incident would never occur again. He slipped sleeping potion into their father's whiskey and, while he was sleeping, snuck his and Cammie's things out of the house. One of his Hogwarts friends helped him obtain a temporary residence in Somerset Village as well as a transfer for both him and Cammie to Hogwarts Galaxia, far away from their father. Since then, the two have been living in hiding from their father.
In her fifth year, Cammie moved into the Hardy residence against her brother's wishes, who had transferred into the castle for his final year as this was the easiest way for him to keep on top of all his 7th year responsibilities. His protective nature when it comes to his sister has never waned, and his wrath should she be hurt is feared throughout the school, especially since he beat up a third-year boy shortly after their arrival for bringing her to tears. This had been fairly customary for Marlon until Cammie had gotten her feet under her. She started to make friends, but since they were in seperate houses there wasn't too much that he could do to influence her to get in with the right kinds or people. He knew that her friends were in with some shady people but due to the fact that he had his own marks to think about, Cammie was left to her own devices so long as she wasn't jeopardizing their safety. Marlon graduated at the head of his class but not head boy as he had been wanting. That title went to his best friend of whom he couldn't have been more proud. He immediately started his internship with the Austrian Ministry of magic. At the time he was still dating his long time girlfriend of Autumn Stanton.
It was during Cammie's seventh and final year at Galaxia that they received word that their father had finally passed away. After spending years and years avoiding the man, and hiding away their very existence from the man, it seemed that the drink had finally done him in, they were rid of him forever and with it, Marlon inherited all of his worldly possessions. Including two homes, one in England that was the house that they had grown up in, and a second vacation home in Austria that neither of the children had even known anything about. Marlon moved out of the Zealon household that he had been residing in with Centara, Joshua and Keara into his own home with the promise that he would still visit very often. Unfortunately he didn't really keep that promise. Work kept him more busy than he ever could have imagined, and his relationship with Autumn suffered. She was perfect for him in every way, and even with a bond as strong as theirs, whenever the time had come that he thought he was going to propose to her, he and ended up breaking her heart instead. Something that he had hoped to never have to to. He had kept the ring, he felt that if he had given it to her, it would only hurt her more. She didn't need to have an everlasting reminder of him, it was better that way. Or so he hoped. Since all that was left to do was work, that was exactly what he did.
Then everything changed. Shortly after the Ministers ball and the reappearance of the Dark Lord he had been buried under a mountain of paperwork. One night a few weeks later, a woman appeared on his doorstep with the same blond hair that he recognized as his sister. She was disfigured, bleeding out of the upper half of her body. She couldn't talk and her clothing was melted to her body. He helped her inside, just amazed that she was able to apparate into the house at all. There she was, bleeding and looked like a melted candle, and against her skin standing for the world to see was her Dark Mark. No wonder she had come to him and not gone to the hospital. This was why they hadn't talked any more, she had traded in the Evil of their father for the evil of the Dark Lord. As ashamed and hurt he was he couldn't refuse her. Anybody else maybe, but not her. For all of his book smarts he didn't know anything about Healing, he had always just assumed that he would have Autumn there to fix anything that he had ever needed...whenever they had broken up he didn't even think about anything like that. Yet, this was his sister and he didn't have a choice. He needed help. He had sent off his Patronus to go to her, to help him figure out what was wrong and she had sent him an owl in return. Without the Patients information and the fact that he was so unwilling to come into the hospital for help she couldn't come. But she did give him instructions, at least her overly large heart was willing to do that. For that he was thankful, any help would be better than no help at all. He had managed to follow the instructions to save her life, to keep her from bleeding out on the carpet but not to save her skin. Only a real healer would have been able to do that. Her shoulder neck and torso were just going to have to be hidden under concealment charms for the foreseeable future. Once skin is burnt like that...it's hard to get it back to the once flawless skin that she had possessed for the most of her life. It was the more terrifying night of Marlon's life. He knew that night, the nice, normal life that he had made for himself was gone forever.
Whenever Cammie moved in to his home, she gave him the deed to Purgatory and all that had come with it since she couldn't go out in public to run it herself. Between that, caring for her and work he had run himself thin. All of his other priorities had fallen by the wayside. His friendships took a back seat and then moved out of the car all together. Autumn seemed to be out of his life for good. He couldn't tell anybody the reason for his absence, he couldn't bear to run the risk of exposing her. His only living family was what had to be important. Sadly, that meant his personal life had to die. He threw himself into work, keeping eyes and ears out for anything that had to do with hunting known Death Eaters, he was using his position for less than reputable things but he didn't have a choice. Now, three years later he had managed to climb up the ladder at work, and has become the head of the department that he had chosen and is doing very well for himself. Cammie had moved out just before the Gringotts incident, and still comes by to visit every couple of days. She's trying to put her life back together, she's back in charge of her own establishment which means that Marlon is now only doing one job, and even with the fact that due to the Battle of Gringotts, he's got more free time on his hands than he is comfortable with, he's actually getting six whole hours of sleep a night. For a person who is so accustomed to working so much and multitasking during every waking moment, to have his life back to himself, is driving him more than a little nuts. So now he's got to focus on doing things for himself, which is far more easily said than done.
