The sun was bright, the clouds were sparse and all in all it was turning out to be a great day on the grounds of Galaxia. That is, if you didn’t mind all of the students wandering around. It was nearly lunch time so she had figured most everyone would be inside getting food, however it seemed like it was the exact opposite. If only she had known that before she had started her run, Amina would have chosen to eat first then go for a run. Instead, she had woken up at about 10 am, devoured a protein bar like she hadn’t eaten in years, changed into a pair of shorts and a work out top that did not look much different than the pajamas she had just been wearing, tossed on her running shoes and music player, and made her way out of the door without a second thought. Well, that was a lie. She had turned around as soon as the door shut so she could grab her sunglasses. Even through the closed blinds (her roommates were kind enough not to open them on her when she slept later than they did) she could see the sun peeking through. She was not fond of a run when she could not see where she was going.
Though it was not the best situation for her stomach, Amina was thinking about turning around and heading back to the Great Hall to get some food. Running on a full stomach was not a good idea but it was much better than weaving in and out of students sitting on the ground with their textbooks and quills or avoiding the couples huddled on a blanket on the lawn. It was like the sun had a gravitational pull, dragging everyone out of the castle and out onto the lawns. Fortunately, there was a dirt path that led through most of the grounds that students tended not to sit on, but then you had them all walking in a huge line, blocking the entire path, and making it impossible for you to pass. She honestly didn’t know which situation was worse. If she hadn’t already begun her warm up jog she probably would have turned around but at this point it was far too late. She could already feel her adrenaline picking up. If she were to stop now, she would just feel odd with her heart racing but her skin not being in the least bit sweaty. She hated that feeling. It made her feel like everything she had just done was completely pointless and she was going to have to work even harder later. Instead of having that feeling, she was just going to have to suffer with the crowd.
As she picked up her speed, going into a full jog, she made her way around a group of what looked like second years, moving out into the grass to do so and moving back onto the path. She still was not used to the grounds and it seemed like every morning she went for a run, she found a new place to venture to. Apparently that was what happened when you moved to a foreign school; you had to learn the layout all over again. Luckily this was the first time she had moved in her life but she missed the Keys like crazy sometimes. Looking around her, she noticed one path off to the right that seemed to be much less crowded and without a second thought, she turned to go down it. Immediately she noticed how much easier it was to run when you weren’t constantly working to avoid people and because of that, she was able to focus more on the music that was flooding from her ear buds into her ear canal. Something she knew she did but never really noticed at the time was change her pace to the beat of the music. Slower songs gave way to a light jog while more upbeat songs could cause her to start sprinting if they were good enough. One of those happened to make their way to her ears as the song switched.
A smile came across Amina’s face as her pace picked up a bit, her sunglasses threatening to slide down her face as her nose began to show signs of perspiration. Fifteen minutes of jogging could do that to a person. Pushing them back up the bridge of her nose, she picked up her pace even further, matching it to the beat of the music. As she followed the path and the amount of people began to die down, she began to notice less and less the people who were walking down the path and just focused on her breathing and the music. They were all that existed. The beat was in time with her footing, at some times her nearly getting to a sprint when it really got going. That was, until a figure came into her path. Now that she noticed; barely. If it hadn’t been for her seeing his shadow out of the corner of her eye, Amina would not have even noticed the intersection of two paths and the people that were crossing the one she was currently on. He was the only one in real danger of being within her path, but to hit him at the speed she was going would be a painful experience. Luckily, she was good on her feet.
If she had seen him a moment later, there would have been no avoiding a head on collision but the moment she saw him, she was able to slow down. She had nearly avoided him but unfortunately managed to practically sideswipe him, causing her to do a 180 as she began to job backwards. “Sorry!” she shouted with her hands held up in an apology, not realizing how loud her voice had been due to the level of the music in her ears. Waving slightly, she turned back around and continued down the path. Hopefully he didn’t mind her hit and run. She just honestly didn't feel like stopping the momentum she had, but so far people in Austria seemed to be pleasant enough. If he wasn’t, she would just keep running. Hopefully he couldn’t keep up.
