Amina chuckled as Gavin’s foot found hers through the grass. She had been practically lost in it with how small she was in comparison to its height and if he didn’t watch himself, there was a good possibility he might get lost with her. Then again, would it be so bad getting lost in a world where there wasn’t much to be concerned with? Sure, the woods had its own things to be concerned with, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as they world they had just come from. They each had their friends and respective sports, but beyond that, what good was there in that world? Classes? No fun. Work? Even worse. Arranged marriage? She had just learned about his fate only that morning and already the thought was creeping up into her thoughts, tearing apart what should be a good afternoon with its terrible hold. Why did he have to tell her? If it was an attempt to get her to leave him, he had failed, but she hoped it wouldn’t constantly be looming over her head when she was with him. Had Gavin not been standing over top of her, she might have frowned as she thought about the story he had told her earlier and the possible woman he might have to marry in due time. Luckily, the moment her eyes scanned his face, Amina couldn’t help but grin up at him. He was hers for the time being. She wouldn’t let herself think any farther ahead than she already had. After all, the future was always changing. Who was to say that in a years’ time, they would both even still be alive with all of the things happening in Austria, let alone getting ready for his wedding. There was no way to tell what may happen in the future and she sure wasn’t going to speculate. The here and now was what mattered most.
“It wouldn't be the first time that a pretty girl has fallen for me.” Rolling her eyes, Amina lowered herself back down onto the grass and laid her hands across her chest. “I know, I’ve heard the stories,” she stated with a falt tone, her eyes wandering to the side for a moment. She hated that he could truthfully say those words because it made her realize how many women there had been before her. But, she had learned to accept that and, with his earlier confession of her being one of only two to feel his lips on her own, she was no longer worried about his past. Looking back at him, she matched his sly grin. “Good thing that just means we have to make new stories,” she added, adding a playful tone to her voice. She hoped he would realize she had only been joking and wasn’t upset about his prior relationships, if you would call them that. Propping herself back up on her elbows, she listened to the sound of the grass squishing underneath the pressure and felt herself dip about an inch. She knew there would be a big difference between herself and the other women he slept with, mostly because despite how good they seemed together and how little she cared about status, he didn’t want to be seen with someone from her house. She wouldn’t be able to tell others who she was seeing or why she was still ‘single’. She wouldn’t be able to share with Wilhelm that she was attracted to a guy from a house he despised. She wouldn’t be able to talk to Victoria about what was going on in her life. She wouldn’t be able to spread their new stories, but she was oddly okay with that. Amina had no interest in becoming just another statistic around the school.
As he squatted down in front of her, Amina felt the sudden urge to pull him off his balance and onto her, but with her track record, something told her that would end badly for the two of them. So, instead, she remained propped up on her elbows and just stared into his eyes, feeling like if she let go of them for even a second, their day would be ruined. Then he moved closer. Merlin he was making it impossible for her to not drag him down to her level, especially with that seductive grin of his. Hell, he could have any expression on his face and she would want to smother him. “At least I know that you aren't clumsy in everything that you do.” Amused with his tone, she put all of her weight onto one elbow and reached her opposite hand up towards him, tracing from his hairline, down his jawbone and down his neck before resting it against his chest. “Don’t jinx me,” she replied with a wink, pushing herself further up until her face was close enough to his for their lips to brush together. She remained there for a moment before pulling away from him. “Now, see, you’ve got me nervous,” she sighed, shaking her head before, falling back onto the grass with a squishy thud, her hands crossing over her stomach again.
Her eyes took the moment of close proximity to take in his features for the millionth time. Every inch of her was as close to perfection as a person could dream of, just as it had been the first day she had actually recognized him as a person and not just a jerk who couldn’t accept her apology. “Why me?” she asked absently, regretting it the moment the words left her mouth. “Sorry, me running my mouth again. You don’t have to answer that.” The question had been asked before with no avail, so she thought the case had been settled, but apparently her unconscious mind didn’t agree. It was a valid question, after all. She was nothing special, from a different house, and from a completely different upbringing than he was. There was nothing to point out these two being attracted to one another more than looks, but yet she knew that wasn’t it. Their connection was far beyond looks alone, obvious by the ring she wore around her neck and being the only girl she currently knew of to sleep with him more than one night. But, even still, if he were to ask the same question of her, she wasn’t quite sure she could answer it. Amina had never been one to go after someone specifically because of looks. It could be because he hated her from the get go, but her interest would have worn off when his attitude changed towards her. The only other thing that seemed to fit was his uncanny ability to keep her guessing. Though some things were blatantly obvious about him, she couldn’t help but feel she would never know the real Gavin, and the allure was too addicting.
