my bad luck.
It was still the beginning of the semester, so it was likely the last of her chances for that year to get in any serious pleasure reading. She had found a set of Muggle books that she had grown quite fond of over the summer, and had been hooked ever since. Sura wondered vaguely if the Muggle that had written them realized just how much truth was actually in the books: imps, unicorns, magic, all as real as the hair on her head. It was a bizarre concept to think of a world without these things. Maybe that was why Muggles found these sort of books so attractive: they were full of things that were, in a way, otherworldly. She glanced at her watch and sighed, dropping her elbows and falling flat into her bed. Being a Prefect sure had a way of interrupting peaceful moments sometimes.
Earlier that day, Sura had received an owl from a Professor, asking her if she could take a detention shift. It was just for a single student, so she shouldn't have any issues that she couldn't handle. Of course she agreed to take it; the only other plans she'd had for the night were enchanting the last of the peacock feathers onto her Halloween costume, and that could admittedly wait. The Halloween Ball was still a few days away, which was more than enough time for her to get the whole thing finished. Then the only thing left would be to dye her hair and do her nails and make-up. Easy. Sura glanced over at the costume that was hanging on her mirror, half-feathered but still lovely. She could hardly wait to get to wear it. Sura pushed herself up so that she could shimmy off her bed. Grabbing her bag and robe from a nearby hanger, she tossed the book in and shimmied into the robe. Her Prefect badge caught some of the room's dim light as she looked down at it. What a job.
As she walked the halls to the detention room, she wondered exactly who she was going to be watching and what they had done to deserve being there. Sura whistled at a group of first years that were appearing to get a little rowdy over Chocolate Frog card trading, pointing at them and raising her eyebrows. They squeaked their apologies, the noise dropping considerably. Perhaps her student caused some sort of mischief, picked on a younger student, got caught fighting, set someone's cauldron to high when they weren't looking... There were really an awful lot of ways that you could get yourself into trouble at Hogwarts. She had found several of those out for herself in past years, though she had been lucky to never receive more than one evening of detention for any given transgression. Sura chuckled as she reflected, turning the corner to her destination hallway.
She pushed the door open as she checked her watch. She was a little early. Probably better that she was. It wouldn't look all so good on her if her student had arrived before she had. If it was an older student, she probably would have caught a lot of snark and flack for it. Sura walked over to the desk and dropped her bag on it. Just as she pulled her chair out, she heard the door opening behind her. Turning to look over her shoulder, she couldn't help but snort and let a small grin settle on her face. Of course she was supervising his detention. Of course. Why would the universe have let it be anyone else but Regulus Reinbach? If nothing else, she knew that she was in for an interesting evening. The boy was full of snappy remarks and comebacks. "What did you do, Regulus?"
