“Good morning class” Professor Alderman's voice boomed around the rounded walls of the classroom. It was well into his second year of teaching at Hogwarts Galaxia, and yet, he still got jitters before the start of every lesson. The setting of the room hadn't changed much over the time that he had been here. He wasn't much of a decorator as it was so he didn't need to update the various things around the room. In fact, he thought the only thing that had changed at all in the room aside from the slowly accumulating dust on the skeletons hanging from the ceiling was the books held on the shelves lining the stadium seating. One by one the spaces allotted in the rows had been filled by students until it looked like everybody who was supposed to be here, was. His face turned upward as he moved away from his desk. Slowly, he moved outward into the room. He had learned last year that coming off too friendly will get him eaten alive by the students. Given that he wasn't that far out of school himself they needed the stern faces to take him seriously, even if he knew it didn't feel right coming from him. He wasn't a stern person, but at least it tied in easily to today's lesson. “As you can see, around the room there are various piles of pillows, cushions, and other various padded objects.” He stated easily, he could feel their gaze diverting from him to the items that he referenced. He walked between the piles, covering the vast space easily with his long legs. “As you might have gleamed, today is a hands on lesson. We've had a lot of essays and lectures thus far this semester, figured you might want to get your hands dirty...so to speak” He moved forward, turning his gaze upward to the group of Slytherin's sitting furthest from him. “We are using soft objects so that none of you get any...ideas...about harming the other students” gesturing to the board where the incantation and a short series of questions were written he continued “you will come down in groups of eight to work on the ground. The rest of you, will work on writing out the answers to the questions on the board until such time as the next group of eight will be called down.”
he moved back to the board and lifted his wand off of the chalk holder. Not that he used chalk, but he liked the little ledge. He did almost everything by magic these days, whenever he lived in a school and was surrounded by it every single day, then why not? At least whoever watched him might learn a thing or two. He hoped. Lifting his wand, he aimed at the nearest pile of the brightly colored and tasseled cushions. “Depulso” There was no fancy movements, only a simple slide of his wand from one side to another, no jet of light leaving his wand. It was very simple, as he said the words, the cushions that he had been aiming at flew across the room and joined another pile a few feet away. Lowering his wand with a small smile he nodded “As you can see, it looks quite simple. It is, put simply, the opposite of an accio command, instead of summoning something, you send it away from yourself.” Leaning against the desk he folded his arms across his chest. “It's execution however, can prove to be quite tricky. Which is why it's not on the list of first year spells like it's cousin.” Glancing upward he pointed to the first eight people sitting in the left side of the room. “You lot, come on down, I will move about you as you practice to help you out. The rest of you, start on the questions which will be due at the end of the hour” Now to wait, it should be a fairly simple class, he hoped.
Chalkboard Questions:
What are the two possible derivations that the incantation 'Depulsio” could have come from?:
Name a practical use for this spell:
What is the number one limitation to this spell?”
notes: In your post, feel free to include whatever tidbits you wish to your exceution of the spell. That order will be simple, the first eight students to reply to this lesson will be in the first group. If you choose to have them practice and then retire to their seat, please include the answer to the chalkboard questions in your post. Posters 8- on do it I the reverse order, questions first and then have a try at the spell if you so choose. As always, posting in class will earn your house much needed house points. Any questions, please feel free to post them or PM me. The answers to the questions can be found via google or the HP Lexicon/wiki.
