SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD
• to believe there's someone else who could be •
JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME
If he were to push her sides together, would that make the healing process go any faster? You might think that it would, given that it wouldn't have to form as much new skin, it could just patch together what was already there. He didn't honestly know, he would never be able to dream of healing that quickly. Tobias found himself needed an anchor for the first time in awhile. He needed the distraction that movement would provide to keep him thinking. His mind tended to move far too quickly most of the time, and now, he couldn't stop thinking about her eyes. Every glance downward at her figure didn't even catch the same thing. It was like whatever he had just seen was gone. Even if she was pointedly avoiding his gaze, he just wanted to see it, to see it's true face. Whatever it was that was waking up to look through her eyes. He wanted to see the gold awaken and take it's new place. He couldn't stop seeing it, like it had been physically reaching out to him, grabbing him by the lapels and attempting to drag him back inward. Nothing like that had ever happened to him before. He felt, well, he couldn't give it name, the way the felt. He just knew that it was something he wouldn't shake if he had tried. It was clinging to him like a second skin, pushing the cold of the foggy night air away as the moon finished crawling above their heads. Claiming the sky. He almost wished that this had happened during the day, at least the situation wouldn't feel quite so bleak. So endless. At least she wasn't fighting him any longer. Whether it was what had just transpired that took the fight from her, or she was starting to give way to the pain she was no doubt feeling. Either way it allowed them to lift her more easily, his arms locking in their grip of her torso, making sure to himself that he wasn't in any danger of dropping her. That would be the worst, to undo everything that he had just done. He only had the one potion. He didn't know where they could take her, all of the places that he knew to be 'his own' were suspended in the sky, the tree tops and rafters of the school. No way could he get her there like this, even if he could, it wouldn't give him any sort of maneuvering room. She could fall. Again, defeating the whole purpose.
Tobias knew out of all of them that had been out this night, he was likely to be the most sane. He had done the least amount of work, nobody had hit or harmed him. He was the most sound, the rest were scattered. He should be the one to know what to do, but he was at a loss. He didn't know anything other than they couldn't stay here. They would have to relocate her, and one of them was going to have to come back and clean up this mess. They couldn't hope to keep any of this a secret if somebody were to stumble upon the giant puddle of blood staining the very ground. “Aye. We’ll help ye.” At least he wasn't doing this alone, at least she wasn't doing this alone. Without another sound, his eyes declared thanks to Marcus for backing him up, despite the lack of plan he had. “Breathe.” She wasn't muttering any longer, her crazed, confusing string of words seemed to be over. For that he was grateful. Luckily, Marcus was filling in the gaps, helping her in ways that Tobias simply didn't know how to do. “No one can know.” There was something breaking in her voice, something that no matter how hard he tried to understand, no matter how many times that Marcus and his brother had attempted, painstakingly, to explain it to him in as simple of terms as they couldn't, he couldn't understand. He didn't know why it was so horrible, at least not horrible apart from the whole ripping ones self to bits once a month for a few years. “I’m goin’ta touch ye Kariana. How do ye want ta do this Tobias?” His eyes tore away from Kariana, he couldn't stop staring at the melting of her eyes. The final bits of blues and greens flaking away, being consumed by that thing that had just been looking up at him. Consuming. Wanting. He didn't even know what it was, or even put a name to the way that it had made him feel. Thankfully, Marcus was here to distract him. Rotating his head, Tobias looked out around the grounds again, there was nowhere to go. He didn't have anywhere to take her. They would just have to make do, now he felt stupid for attempting to lift her up in the first place.
“I have an extra shirt in me bag.” He meant? Of course. One real look at Kariana's mangled clothing would signal that she was going to need something to at least get her past the Auror's in the castle. After they managed to get her even close to the doors. She couldn't go in like that, for certain. “Aye… Forgot me wand was in me pants.” “You're going to have to hold her.” He knew it wouldn't be a problem, Marcus had more than enough strength to do it. Carefully, he brought Kariana's shoulders into Marcus' arms. Once he was certain that she was supported, he bolted off in the direction of his bag from earlier. Everything that they needed would be in there. Stopping so suddenly once he was near enough that he almost fell over his arms scooped everything within reach together. Shoes, books, scraps of parchment , Marcus' bag and most importantly, his wand and journal and stuffed them into the bag and slung it over his shoulder. He ran back a little slower, fishing out his wand in the process of flipping through his journal and reaching into his bag for another metal container. Once back to her, he pointed his wand at the ground, the spell would take a little while to get all of the blood out. “Scourgify.” if only the spell worked on cotton blends, why if didn't? He had no idea. Finding the metal container and opening it, he dumped the contents on her stomach. ”What's tha'? “Water...” he muttered, almost amused. He needed to loosen her shirt from the dried blood in order to get the rest done. Marcus would have to be the one to change her, they both knew Tobias would be useless in that department...nervous hands. Hoisting Marcus' bag out from inside of his own he dropped it to the ground for the time being and set about cleaning the other two, sending glances to Marcus as he worked. Pointing his wand at the smaller cuts from the struggle and her fall he muttered “Episkey” and watched as they started to mend themselves as much as the could. At least it wouldn't beg too much question. The real hard work had already been done with the potion that he had given her, the internal damage was being allowed to heal at the very least. From what he understood, that tended to take the longest, and couldn't be helped most times. Given that her wound was by her organs...it needed to be helped or else they wouldn't have been able to get her anywhere at all.
Whenever she was patched up enough, he took a step back as Marcus lowered her back to the now clean and cool ground. Tasking himself with pulling and unfolding the clothing from Marcus' bag while Marcus set about getting rid of the soiled clothing he passed the items to him when it was time. “What are you going to do?” They didn't have any way of knowing where Amina was, and Tobias was going to have to be the one to wait for her in the common room given their shared house. Marcus was a prefect, he could technically take Kariana back to her dorm room, but he was known to far too many of the Slytherins, they would know he was coming and stop him, question what he could have done to Kariana. Too many questions. Was he going to go and see the nameless woodsman that he always alluded too but that Tobias had still yet to meet? “I'll need the pass word of course...” He would go, he was of a level mind, would they even notice him if there was anybody still up at all? He could wait with her, they had curtains on their beds didn't they? He was good at being silent, wait until she was rested and sneak right back out. It was the only plan that he could think of...answer questions if he could. His eyes turned up to Marcus, of course, he should have been the one answering the questions, he had the experience, Kariana was going to need to learn. Did it need to be now, or could it wait? Once she was dressed, and the surrounding area clean he pulled his bag over his shoulder and handed Marcus his own. Marcus was going to have to bury or burn those cloths. No way could they go back into the castle. “Can she – can you walk at all?”
